UEM Top Fuel Bike

Having had a tweak of the fuel system under the guidance of Phil Bainbridge, Steve Carey was all smiles despite the miserable weather, having lowered his PB by two tenths to a 6.670/202 to tie down third spot in the Top Fuel Bike field behind Steve Woollatt (6.487) and defending champ Rikard Gustavsson (6.646).

The mix and match of Top Fuel Bike still permits non-nitro multicylindered bikes with the occasional appearance of somewhat extreme entries such as Michal Ponca’s new for 2007 experimentation with streamlining. One was left wondering what Czech for “what’s it like in a crosswind, mate?”

UEM Super Twin

Super Twin has traditionally been a class dominated by the Scandinavians, but 2007 could well see the title heading to mainland Europe. Swiss Lorenz Stauble topped the charts with a 6.66/202, but Germany’s Gunther Sohn was the only rider to clock six second passes in both sessions suggesting that some tipsters might have backed the right man for this season’s title holder.

At Easter, ex-multi time Top Fuel bike champion and still the quickest fuel bike rider in Europe, Roel Koedam disassembled one of Ton Pels’ motors on his only pass of the event. The partnership made better progress at the Main Event, with Koedam clocking his first 6 (a 6.992/200) although some wayward burnouts have delayed Pels’ signing his close friend off learner plates on the Zodiac Harley.
