On Two Wheels

As part of the vast Erbacher racing stable, whose every move was followed by a Discovery Channel documentary film crew, Lorenz Stauble (above) shook the cobwebs
out of his PRP V-Twin with victory in the Top Fuel Bike field. A new PB 6.586/211 represented a mighty fine start to the season in the second qualifying session and then Lo outlasted the field to take his first, and almost certainly not the last, trophy of the year.
A couple of seasons ago the talk in the Super Street Bike pits was who would be the first into the sevens. Now sevens are seemingly cheap at the sharp end of the field and considerable investment over the winter put Dave Smith (near lane below) into the 7.4s first in the street-tired no bar class (securing a new ACU record at 7.425 in the process). However, in the final round, Steve Venables (far lane) used a holeshot to take the win by five feet on a 7.68 (to a 7.66) from his newly imported Velocity Racing Hayabusa.
