Jay Upton recorded, with his prototype, in the final a 6.38 at 217.84 which easily covered Troy McLean on his twin cylinder Harley which slowed to a 6.95. A quietly chuffed Jay Upton told me after the race that he had to take things easy in the first couple of rounds because the four valve head combination was burning fiercely on the exhaust side of things. “We are going to a new three-valve design which we hope will give us some more consistency," he revealed.

Greg Leahy spent most of the weekend either pulling the chute early or getting on the brakes to save his index. It worked as he went all the way to a win in the Comp bracket.

The Super Sedan bracket had 84 entries which included every thing from six second cars to Frank DeGrazia’s wild wheel standing Toranas like this cherry version.

David Tucker’s gorgeous A/Gas Pontiac Firebird went right through to win the Super Stock bracket with of a skilful balance of index hopping and good reaction times.
