FUNNY CAR

"This weekend was just a little reminder that when conditions are good and with the way they prepare the tracks these days that just about any place can hold a national record.”
— Tony Pedregon, who earned his 33rd career race win by beating Robert Hight in the final, on also officially setting a new E.T. record of 4.659 in qualifying and becoming the first to ever set a national Funny Car record at Firebird
“I get behind the car sometimes. It's frustrating knowing you're making those mistakes when you're driving for a championship team. They have a top-five car and I just want to get myself to be a top-10 driver soon. And, I find I make improvements and then something
different will happen that I've never experienced. And it's such a steep learning curve in these cars. And right now I'm just a little bit frustrated.”— Jack Beckman after finishing 9th in qualifying
“It put a cylinder out very early, but I had to keep my foot down and go for it, because we weren't in at the time. It almost made it, but with that hole out for that long it finally ate itself up and blew up pretty big down there. It was a pretty big bang, and I can't count too manytimes we've completely blown the side of the body out of the car like that. It just didn't want to live to the finish line, and this is what we get. We miss the field, ruin a body, and have to spectate on Sunday again. It's as bad a deal as you'd ever want to contemplate.”— Del Worsham on his final qualifying attempt and coming up short for both races held so far this season
