Mike Neal’s 2006 season may finally be over. The Floridian lost in the opening stanza of PX to eventual winner Mike Bell but earlier squared off with father Mike in a 4.02/179 to 4.13/173 battle and, in the final qualifying session against Troy Critchley‘s 3.95/185, gained his first three-second timeslip with a 3.992/179.93...which Michael celebrated all the way up the return road.

Milliseconds after clocking the 4.01/181.60 which led the field, Pro Nitrous low qualifier Mike Castellana was greeted rudely when both front wheels locked up and only skillful driving kept the car off the HMP walls. The Cavalier had to be towed off the racetrack and back to the pits for repairs before Mike’s untimely redlight by eight thousandths of a second against Jamie Hancock in round one. Joe Baker’s Florida Willys certainly didn’t lose any
horsepower over the winter; a 3.98/186.34 qualifier
was bettered by a 3.97/183.32 test pass!

Steve Vick would’ve qualified for the PN show in the fourteenth spot had his Friday test run of 4.10/180.31 been recorded during an official qualifying session. Tire shake kept the patriotic ‘Vette to a dismal best of 4.47/158 when it counted.
