Gary Phillips had a mixed weekend at the wheel of his new funny car. He made it to the semi-finals only to go down to eventual winner, Brett Stevens. As can be seen here his Chev Monte Carlo body started to cave in as it came to a stop.

North Queenslander John Barbagallo was the class of the field in the 400 cubic inch version Pro Stock – top qualifying with a 7.23 and used 7.32, 7.26 and 7.26 times to completely decimate the field.

Scott Porter made it an all Ford final when turning back Nick Xerakis’ Escort in the first round (7.32 to 7.47) and Jason Grima’s similar GT 500 model Mustang  (7.26 to 7.33). The fairy tale ended there though as his 7.55 was no match for John Barbagallo’s 7.26.

Dave Newcombe’s sweet looking GTO had a solid weekend in the Australian version of small block Pro Stock. This saw him qualify fourth with a 7.26 and then took out the more fancied Aaron Tremayne with a 7.34 in the first round. In the semis he went up against John Barbagallo’s Escort and lost despite almost a three-hundredths holeshot. His off pace 8.55 was nailed by an 8.55.

Maurice Fabietti’s GTO cum Monaro went all the way to the final of the seven car exhibition Top Doorslammer bracket. His first round 6.12 was certainly a welcome time slip for a guy who has worked very hard to bring his car into the top level of the sport. Unfortunately, eagerness in the final saw him red light by one thousandth and waste a 6.27 to lose to Steve Dupond.
