What a difference in engine and body styles were found in the Pro Street class, ranging from Personett’s 182-ci turbocharged Toyota Scion to Dean and Cary Cosworth’s 2007 Cobalt and Garrett Richards' Brad Hadman-built 2006 Chevy Silverado truck powered by a Sonny Leonard-built 820-ci big block.

Number one qualifier Lee Frank lost to the #32 qualifier Dal Sangla when Lee instantly stuck the tires and had major tire shake.  In the second round number two qualifier Dennis Radford also fell victim to traction problems against Randy Kay’s 1966 Vette from Reno, NV, while Mike Moran was cruising through his opposition.

In the quarter finals the first pair up were the turbo Mustang of Sangha versus  Big Ed Thornton and his ex-Bob Rieger 1957 Chevy powered by a turbocharged small block Chevy and now backed by Accufab. At the flash of the green Thornton’s ‘57 shoebox got a little loose and Dal “the Giant Killer” Sangha once again took out a contender, driving his green turbo ‘Stang to a 6.701/219.90 win over Big Ed’s 6.769/218.23 mph.

Former Extreme Street Champion Jimmy Mock from Yorba Linda, CA, next advanced with his new 1951 Chevy coupe, which has been looking stronger each outing. Jimmy singled for the win at 6.510/219.26 mph when Pro Stock racer Dean Goforth’s GTO could not make the call.

In the closest race of eliminations to that point the driver made the difference instead of the horsepower as Moran won a peddlefest with Randy Kay when both drivers had major traction problems but refused to give in. Moran managed a  7.280/228.65 win over Randy Kay’s extremely close 7.292/214.76 mph.

Local hero Gil Nevarez and his Sandlin Lumber/NRP/West Coast Race Cars 1968 Camaro was shut off by Nick the chief starter and Sycamore, IL, resident Chuck Samuel still legged out a fine 6.484 at 219.40 mph.
