Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association

The cumulative format of the NFAA series favours consistency and Dennis Wratten was definitely consistent. A pair of 7.1s put him well ahead of the field, and then he lowered his PB to a 6.842/199.93 to secure a spot in the final round run-off for his Flowtech methanol Topolino. A second title of the season was secured when Wratten dropped back into the 7.1s and opponent Joe Bond lost a fuel line off the startline.
Heads Up Classes

After a season chasing the Silverline Tools car of Dave Wilson all over Europe, the Turner Motorsport ride finally did what no other Methanol Dragster has done this year, and took the winlight when Wilson was in the other lane. Steve Turner, more usually crewchief to brother Rob, did so in fine style with a 5.783/245 setting both ends of his PB and earning family bragging rights over the winter.

After cracking off some very impressive runs in the previous event, Paul Mander looked a strong candidate for a first trophy run in the Super Modified category after qualifying in third spot with a 7.860 (although someway behind Fred Hone’s 7.542 on pole). Sticking in the 7.8s allied with a couple of holeshots was enough to account for series champion Andy Kirk in the first round and series runner up Tim Garlick in the second, and when Fred Hone was shut-off after the burnout, Mander soloed for the win and ‘celebrated’ with a big cloud of smoke over the finish line, hopefully not signalling terminal damage to the Arrow’s motor. |
A titanic season long points tussle in Real Steel Street Eliminator between Andy Frost and Steve ‘Splinter’ Nash was eventually resolved when Frost fell victim to radial rock at the top end in the second round of eliminations. Having painted Splinter’s 2008 race number on the rear window, crew chief Nick Davies then turned up the wick on the twin turboed Cougar which vaulted Nash into the sevens for the first time with a 7.934, then put him on course for a new ET record with a 7.840 in the semis and backed up the ET mark with a 7.848 in the final round match up against Steve Pateman in simply the quickest block treaded, pump gas, road taxed and licensed race in the world. |
