A total of ten Top Fuel machines were on hand at the classic led by the fearsome team of Whipple and Satterlee with the Candae Pet Foods entry. Scott Whipple (shown) started out things by laying down a fine pass of 2.39 on Friday evening, then progressed to a 2.342 for the number one spot on Saturday. He was followed by Mayor Charlie Brown with the Extreme Racing TF car at 2.41 coupled up with the third fastest time of 157 mph.

Most amazing was the performance turned in by Dennis Rieck and his friends from Carlsbad, California, with their nitro burning small block Chevrolet. Dennis dominated during eliminations, saving the best for last with an incredible 2.327 record run and the Top Fuel title. He is the current NSDA points leader with the “Hammerdown” TF car. Giving notice that the small block Chevy was nothing to joke about, Rieck qualified at 2.418/158 mph.
