NHRA Quotes from Richmond
ith the final positions for NHRA’s inaugural Countdown to the Championship up for grabs, tension was high Oct. 5-7, for the 2nd annual Torco Racing Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, near Richmond, VA.
Though neither were in countdown contention, Doug Kalitta scored a huge win over Melanie Troxel in the Top Fuel final, but it was Brandon Bernstein’s first-round win over challenger Bob Vandergriff Jr. that secured him the final countdown slot to join Larry Dixon, Rod Fuller and Tony Schumacher in going after the season championship over the last two races.
Funny Car ace Gary Scelzi powered through to win and vault himself into the final-four countdown along with teammate and fellow finalist Ron Capps. They join Robert Hight and Tony Pedregon to vie for the 2007 crown. In Pro Stock, countdown leader Dave Connolly won his fifth-straight event title and he will face off against Greg Anderson, teammate Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Allen Johnson to determine this year’s champ.
And as always, the racers tell the whole story through quotes taken from NHRA and team press releases.
