The vintage drag racing was as tough as always and led by Visalia’s Brad Thompson’s stellar performance in Top Fuel. His perfect weekend was topped off with the quickest elapsed time and speed of the meet, a crushing 5.721 seconds at 261.62 mph over Merced, CA Pete Kaiser's 5.924 and 228.54 in Sunday’s final round. Led by Thompson’s #1 5.74 qualifying position, 21 top fuelers thrashed to make the 16-car field with Rick Rogers filling out the bump spot with his 6.104.

In Nitro Funny Car competition, a record 19 floppers made it into the staging lanes for a modified, eight-car Chicago-style competition.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Washington’s Bucky Austin, driving Steve Plueger’s "Northwest Hitter" Plymouth Arrow took the honors over Terry Capp driving the "Bubble-Up/Pacemaker" Firebird tuned by Roland Leong in a close final round.  Austin capped off consistent 5.90’s all day with 5.915 low elapsed time of the event in the final over Canadian Capp’s 6.106. 

DRO Nostalgia columnist Jeff Utterback drove the Pisano & Matsubara Vega to a 6.113/227.33 pass to pick up the #6 qualifying position and went on to defeat Sean Dale in the elimination round running a 6.124 at 228.25 MPH.
