The UEM Super Twin series isn’t exclusively Harley based, as Per Bengtsson’s blown parallel twin “Triumph” (pictured) and Jaska Salakari’s KTM badged bikes demonstrate. Former series champion Bengtsson had a successful return from a sabbatical concentrating on building up his Bentec clutch and gearbox business, qualifying on pole with a 6.807/199 and then running low ET for the class in the forementioned semi-final loss to Aasen. Hopefully “the Beast” (the nickname of the bike, not Per) can continue to make noise as a regular on the European tour once again.

Having swept the first round at Santa Pod and runner-upped in Finland, Anders Abrahamsson and his Motospeed supported Suzuki looked to dominate in Sweden although had to wait until the final qualifying session to steal pole from Anders Jakobsson with a 7.392. From then on Abrahamsson had a smooth path through eliminations producing a 7.398 best in the final to defeat Martin Bishop.

Closing comments

At the mid point of the 2006 series, the European tour is in rude health with entries up in all professional classes. The FIA car and UEM bike series now splits for their penultimate events in Norway and Germany, before coming together for what promises to be a bumper finale at Santa Pod in September. If you have yet to experience the atmosphere and sights of the European tour, you could do worse than start arranging your trip to dear olde Blighty now.
