When Capps stopped on the track in the shutdown area after the final round and the CDP safety crew unlatched the body, Capps jumped out, removed his helmet, and exclaimed, “Man! My visor fogged up as soon as I left the line and the windshield fogged up right after that! All I could see was the guardrail by the glow of the header flames all the way down! It was SO COOL!”

Notable performances included a great 6.34/213.40 by South Carolinian Ray Murphy in the “Big John and Company” ‘84 Camaro, and some exceptional half-track burnouts by Ron Colson, back behind the wheel of Troy Martin’s “Chi-Town Hustler” 1973 Dodge Charger in which he won the Series 31 years ago.

Rick Krafft scored his second consecutive AA/FA Series win at the helm of Mike Faser’s “Chicago Fire” ‘23 T with nonstop five-second runs over the course of two days. After winning the Friday program over Tom Motry (back in the saddle of his “Drastic Plastic” ‘35 Chevy Business Coupe), Kraftt clocked a 5.87/225.41 before a winning 5.94/241.84 over a crossed-up Motry in the Saturday title bout. Randy Baker’s Iowa-based “Nitro Madness” ‘23 T earned bonus points for the scariest half-track wheelstands, and Sean Belton’s “Metal Mafia” ‘23 T (below) was the recipient of the “Best Burnout While Totally Incinerating A Nitro-Burning Powerplant” award.
