NITRO FUNNY CAR

Gary Densham got his second IHRA Funny Car win of the year, defeating Doug Kalitta, who borrowed his cousin Scott’s Monte Carlo for the weekend. Densham stepped up to a 5.017/300.80 to easily defeat Kalitta’s 5.712/235.76.
“We stuck to our game plan, to just go rounds and win the race,” Densham said. “All racers always want to go faster and quicker, but you can’t beat Mother Nature. It it’s hot, it’s hot. We wanted to just go down the race track and make them beat us, just go five-flat at over 300 and take our chances.”
Even with two event wins Densham is No. 4 in the points, following Dale Creasy, Jack Wyatt and Vincent Arcadi.
PRO MODIFIED

Mike Janis got his first Pro Mod win of the 2006 season when his Eaton/Aeroquip-backed Cobalt got over Danny Rowe’s Corvette.
Janis defeated Mike Castellana, Steve Bareman and points leader Glen Kerunsky to get to the final. Rowe qualified No. 3 and made it past Quain Stott, Shannon Jenkins, and Scott Cannon to get to his first final round.
Janis was especially pleased with his win since the Detroit area is home to 17 Eaton locations and his sponsor had nearly 100 employees and clients at the track.
Janis ran a 6.181/231.20 to Rowe’s 6.200/231.48 to get the win.
The win was an emotional one for Janis as it was his first since the death of his father, Joe.
“I miss the guy,” Janis said of his father. “I really wanted this one bad for him and we got it. My son Mike is what keeps me going with this whole thing. He drives the whole package. When I get down he helps get me right back up.”
