A broken driveshaft yoke in qualifying could have ended Clarence Cloud’s day, but APMA promoter and eventual race winner Ronnie Davis had a spare in his trailer and Cloud, who owns Batir Bridge Construction in Vidalia, GA, was able to at least race Davis in the first round. His ’41 Willys, built by Wally Stroupe, has a PAR-built 632 up front and features a striking paint job by Premier Custom Paint in Baxley, GA.

Also on the card at MMP’s Alabama Outlaw Nationals were 5.30, 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0 index classes, with Jeremy Ellis from Phenix City, AL, earning the 5.30 win in his bright red ’67 Chevy II, while Roger Tindoll of Tyler Al, drove his ’72 Yenko Nova to the 6.0 title. In 7.0, local racer Buddy Baggett (shown) outlasted a field of more than 50 entries with his 1939 Plymouth pick-up, and Robbie Roberts steered car owner Jeff Jones’ 1971 Chevelle to the 8.0 win.

Also wowing the crowd at Montgomery was Joe “Pepi” Urban in his Sarasota, FL-based “X-treme Machine” Freightliner fitted with an F-104 jet engine.
