The ANDRA Winternationals has become a famous event because of one thing – the air. The air was in minus territory – 79 feet under as the two cars burned out for the final. On the green Bray had a slight advantage but that dissipated by the 60 foot mark – in fact Bray shook hard while Stevens just high-tailed it to the finish line for a 5.75/247.01 win.

“We were trying for a 5.4 run – it would have been great to be the only car to run in the 5.4s but we stepped it up too much and it just basically shook hard and I shut it off," Bray admitted. Still he won the championship and for Stevens it was a well deserved win. Stevens's team actually had six entries on the property (three top doorslammers, two Top Bikes and the winning flopper) which were all in a massive pit tent.

Stevens (shown) also won the Top Bike bracket after running a string of 6.5-second passes and said, “A Winternationals Christmas Tree (ANDRA’s winner's trophy) is something that all drag racers want on their mantle piece but only a select few ever get, so to win two in one night is just amazing.”

He took out the surprising New Zealander Athol Williams on his Suzuki with low ET of the meet – 6.507/214.09 which was too much for his opponent’s valiant 6.62 which was a personal best in defeat.

While on the subject of bikes, the Winternationals was the last round of the Pro Stock Bike championship. Daniel Peaty on his Suzuki was able to get down the track on his only qualifier the best out of the ten bikes on the property with a top qualifying 7.40. Peaty then won his first round match up with Peter Cochrane’s Kawasaki with low ET of the meet – 7.271/181.30 and he also annexed the Australian Championship with that win.

While he failed in the semis with a red light against Callum Godeassi (shown) who then aced Michael Gilbertson’s Kawasaki in the bracket final. Gilbertson ended up losing fire on the burnout and because he received outside assistance to restart he was instantly disqualified under ANDRA rules. This left Godeassi to solo to a 7.49/181.15 win.
