In a classic final round of Pro Gas competition it was a double break-out as Joe Roubicek in his immaculate 1963 Team Smooth Corvette (shown above) ran a 9.880/163.91 and Hollis Colleasure's famed Surfin-T roadster ran a 9.869/152.66.
SUNDAY
Sunday everyone returned to the 105+ weather, while the most impressive was Steve Rice (shown below) in his turbocharged Kawasaki, which blistered the brand new track surface with a time of 6.944 at 214.59 mph for track records. The rice-burner won the Top Alcohol Motorcycle class with a single pass when Steve Kyllingstad and his 2000 Koenig broke in the semis and could not make the call.

In the Super class, Andy Spiegel ran a right-on 8.908/177.48 over a very close Robert Naber, whose dragster was runner up at 7.935/174.68 mph. Super Comp went to local racer Danny Fuentes who ran a fine 8.903/154.55 mph over John Richardson, who broke out at 8.895 (8.90 index) at 176.35 mph.

In Super Street, Doug Crumlich (our Taylor Hicks American Idol look-a-like) who also heads the Super Street Assn., swept top honors with his black 1996 Corvette. It was a double break-out for both Doug and Randy Bowers in his 1969 Camaro, Crumlich at 10.878/147.09 mph and Bowers at 10.869/133.82.
