Quick Vandiver lived up to his name at Carolina, putting together five quick passes on his way to the 7.0 event win.

In just his second ORSCA event as a racer, Vandiver emerged as the winner of the 7.0 class, advancing his Chevy S-10 from the number-20 qualifying slot through five rounds of eliminations. Meeting him in the final was Grayson, GA’s Al Hause and his 1970 Olds 442, but Hause broke at the start, allowing Vandiver to motor to a 7.020-seconds winning pass at 96.54 mph.

With the starter on his truck broken Saturday night, Vandiver credited Mike Adams Towing in Macon, GA, for the win. “He made sure I got everything I needed to win the race.” He also mentioned cutting good lights all day. “That’s the key to this heads-up racing, staying up on the tree,” Vandiver said.

A 6.002 at 110.65 was good enough to put Scott Palmer and his Oxford, GA-based '67 Camaro on top of the 6.0 qualifying list.

Always a crowd favorite, Ed Bendall, from Town Creek, AL, put together a 7.001-seconds lap to qualify first in the 7.0 class.

ORSCA is back in action this weekend with its third points race for 2006, at US 19 Dragway, near Albany, GA.
