So, what’s different about this new engine?

Barfield: Much bigger, considerably bigger. They’re almost 800 inches now, but think a hundred [cubic] inches bigger. It's going to be a monster.

Then again, you’ve got to find a new tune-up again, find another [torque] converter and everything else that works. But what we’ve found with what we have now, we can ‘over-converter’ what we have, so we feel like we’re a step ahead in the game. I think we’ve got the converter pretty much figured out, or at least close for that new motor. It’s just a matter now of getting it in our hands and doing some testing with it.

Can you comment on rumors that you might be going Pro Mod racing as early as next year?

Barfield: It’s possible. It’s been discussed and we’re looking into it. But really, you know the thing over there with the ADRL, it looks like they’re going to have a 10.5 deal next year, too, so we’re not sure if we’re going to go Pro Mod. We love Outlaw 10.5 and I really

believe we’ll probably just stay with Outlaw 10.5 and run both series next year.

If the ADRL does include Outlaw 10.5 are your guys willing and prepared to do the long hauls outside the traditional Southeast base?

Barfield: Oh yeah, we’ll be doing that. The only thing we can hope and pray for is that the schedules for ADRL and ORSCA don’t mix because we want to support both. If we can get those organizations to not make us choose it would be a whole lot better situation.

If that happens, will a two-car Skull team enter both series?

Barfield: I don’t know right now. I’d have to sit down and talk with Tim (Tindle) at length and figure out what he would want to do. He’s real heavy into the ADRL with the Pro Mods, but it’s kind of hard to say right now. It’s still real early.
