In another first round match Jerry Jenkins' Hemi-Cuda defeated Norman Scott’s ’64 Savoy, 8.897 to Scott’s 8.986. (Tim Marshall photo)
In the final, both drivers were distracted by the afternoon blowing wind as a photographer’s hat blew in front of Jenkins’ Cuda (near lane) causing him to overstage. The cars backed out as the tree was re-set for the last battle of the day. Jenkins left first, drawing an -.051 foul against Coughlin’s near-perfect .001 making the best run of the day at 8.809/151.95 mph to Jenkins’ 8.833/151.56. (Tim Marshall photo)

West Coast Hemis was well represented by car owner/driver Michael Ogburn (left), engine builder and driver 74-year-old Harry Holton and his grandson Jared Jordan. (Darr Hawthorne photo)
