The final pair pitted Bobby Booth’s Vette (shown) against Heath Harvey in his Pontiac. Booth stormed to a smooth 4.097 to overcome Harvey's career-best 4.257.
The semis opened with Meyers (shown) soloing in the orange Firebird as Thomas couldnot make repairs to his Pontiac. Meyers stormed to another career best of 4.163. The next pair was a real battle as the early Vettes of Booth and Taylor squared off. Booth left on Taylor only to see the Mad Man motor by him with another low E.T. of 4.003. Booth’s runner up time was a respectable 4.123.
The final featured the nitrous Pontiac of Meyers, who was celebrating his 41st birthday, against Taylor and his blown '58 Vette. Of added interest was the yet unclaimed $3,000 bonus for the first TOPMA car to run in the 3-second bracket at TXR. The cars left nearly dead even with Taylor pulling away for the win with an ever-so-close 4.000 at 180.79 mph to a tire-shaking, shut-off pass of 5.06 of Meyers.
