SHOOTING GALLERY

After suffering staging troubles in the final round, Joe Baker still managed to win the inaugural APMA race when opponent Ronnie “The King” Davis broke in the opposite lane.

Stephan Stringer, from Somerset, KY, debuted this brand-new ’68 Camaro built by Garret Race Cars, qualifying third at Huntsville with a 4.496/159.07 in just his second full pass in the car. Stringer improved to a 4.481 in the semis, but it wasn’t enough to get past Baker. Watch for a feature on this car next month in DRO.

Blanchester, OH’s Jim Pauckner qualified 5th, but fell in round one to Davis. Pauckner’s ‘41 Willys is for sale to make room for a new Garret-built ’57 Chevy slated for delivery in August.

David Helton arrived from Eubank, KY, and qualified 6th, but lost in the opener to Baker after experiencing what he called “surprising” tire shake in his 1992 Trans Am.
