REAL STREET

A hotly contested Edelbrock Real Street class is always a top feature in PSCA racing, with this year’s two hottest competitors being Rich Hoyle and Matt Schmidt (shown). Hoyle went just far enough in eliminations to earn top honors in this category, but he was not in the finals as Bert Heck in the Hollywood black Camaro (which also set Low ET qualifying) faced off with Matt Schmidt. Heck’s Black Beauty ran a fine 8.470/157.01 mph while Schmidt had a fire in the Lucas Oil Nova and wisely clicked it off.
HOT STREET
Edelbrock Hot Street is one tough class and the big winner was another one of those cars that not only runs PSCA but the NHRA SS/S class too. I'll bet he'll be driving his Ford Probe
from Tucson, AZ, at Pomona this weekend. The honors of No. 1 qualifier and the trophy went to a very tough competitor in Jon Bundrant. Bundrant’s Hot Rod Performance Camaro ran a fine 8.506/162.16 mph over Mike Pritchard who was close by at 8.710/158.17 mph.
TRUE STREET
Calvert Racing True Street has been great racing, but Scott Oska’s Mustang has really been at the head of the class, along with 2005 champ Manny Figuroa. Once again Scott was not to be denied and swept top honors over Joel Orme in the Orme Brothers Mustang. Oska had earlier set Low ET qualifier and won the final with a run of 8.262/170.58 mph.
Super Index winner of this event and Low ET was Jerry Wold at 8.665/143.58 mph over Jack Gottfried’s super close 8.660/156.64 mph. It was the best final of the day!
It was a "family affair" in Limited Street, with Mike and Gordon Saiki both in red Corvettes. Reigning champion Mike defeated his dad, Gordon, 9.065/53.53 mph to 9.12/150.3 mph. Luis Cebellos was No. 1 qualifier.
Mickey Thompson Tires Wild Street was all Steve Short and his wild Mustang. Not only did Short defeat George Raygoza in the final, but his closest competitor, Don Berstley, did a giant wheelstand and then unfortunately met fate with the Fontana guardrail (sequence shown). Bertsley was not injured and he vows to fix the Camaro and return in ’07.
