TOP ALCOHOL
Top Alcohol racer Bob Piunti did this massive wheelstand in the first round of eliminations against Mike DeNunzio. Piunti told DRO that if he had to make another round he could have straightened the chassis out and raced again.
Eighteen supercharged, alcohol burning cars from all over the U.S. came to the Fall Nationals. A large group of alky dragster racers made the trip from Michigan and made a
great showing. One of those Michiganders, Frank Martuscelli, tuned by veteran Pro Mod tuner Darren Mayer, set on the pole with a stellar 2.58, which would have easily qualified him in the sixth spot in the Top Fuel field. Martuscelli bettered that time with a Low ET of the meet 2.583 in the second round, but was a little tardy on the lights and lost to eventual winner John Rammacher’s 2.633.
Rammacher also had Top Speed of eliminations with a 145.69 in a semi-final victory over Mike DeNunzio. On the other side of the semi-final round another Michigan racer, No. 3 qualifier Jim Bailey, lost to California racer Shane Sanford setting up a Michigan-California final round. Rammacher’s 2.663/127.20 got him to the strip just in front of Sanford’s top end charge of 2.678/140.87.

Frank Martuscelli put his Darren Mayer-built and tuned small block Chevy-powered rail on the pole and set Low ET for the class, running a best of 2.583 in a losing effort in the second round.
