After struggling of late, Ken Rainwater, from Kimberly, AL, found and fixed a tiny O-ring problem in his car’s transmission at Albany. Now launching properly, Rainwater’s twin-turbo ‘Stang put together a 4.536/164.08 pass that briefly held the track record before ending up second on the qualifying list.
Keith Szabo scored the top spot in Limited Street qualifying with a 4.975 at 154.09 mph in his Souther Truck Parts-backed ’93 Mustang.
Carlton Thompson, from Tallahassee, FL, ran just one thousandth behind Szabo (4.976) and just one ten-thousandth ahead of Jeff Cooner (4.9769) to secure second place in Limited Street qualifying.
