

Fury (shown) put his ’93 Mustang on the top of the ladder with a pass a mere .015-second off his index and powered to the finals taking out Brad Schmitt and Carey Cable along the way.
On the other side of the ladder, it was Cliff Sebring kicking butt and taking names on his retirement tour. Sebring put the screws to Brian Mullaney, Jenni Merrick, and Robert Loder to earn the right to meet Fury in the finals. At the light it was Fury out first with a .051 while Sebring struggled with a .112, his worst light of the race. At the other end of the track, it was Fury getting the win with an 8.339 on an 8.31 index to a losing 7.878 on a 7.84 index.

Seventeen entries showed up at Columbus for American Muscle Car action with Newark, OH’s Scott Weisand running a mere .008 off his chosen mark. Defending champion Scott Williams came to Columbus with an almost four round lead over Harry Hutten so his championship was almost guaranteed. Williams turned on the red light in the third round ensuring his championship but giving Evan Nichols the round while Hutten sent home Weisand. NSCA T-shirt maven Randy Running (shown) drove his ’87 Firebird past Nichols in the semis while Hutten had the bye to set up the final. Hutten made the first move at the light but it was too soon, giving him a -.095 red light and Randy Running his first AMC victory.

The Jeg’s Stock/Super Stock combo attract eighteen of the best out to National Trail with Jeff Ross leading qualifying, putting his D/PS ’72 Cuda through the beams with a 7.427, 1.073 seconds under his 8.50 national index. Jeff fell to Harley Day’s ’64 Hemi-powered Savoy in the first round but Jeff’s brother Al was more fortunate on the other side of the ladder. Al (shown) drove his SS/KA ’74 Challenger to victory over Terry Witzel, P.J. Ballog, and Dan DeBlasio on his way to the finale. Day’s winning streak included Eugene Chipps and Gary Richmond, but his luck ran out in the final when he ran under his 6.60 index with a 6.555 to Ross’s winning 6.92 on a 6.930.

Four racers made the trip to Columbus to compete in Factory Modified with Ken Shawver’s 6.473 setting the pace a full .947 under the 7.42 national index. Dave Layer, Zack Running (shown), and Mike Pustelny rounded out the rest of the field. Pustelny fouled away his chances in his first round encounter with Dave Layer while Shawver did the same against Running to set up the finale. Running’s 307-powered ’82 Cutlass took the advantage at the light and never looked back, running a 6.867 for the win to Layer’s losing 6.495.
