Burleson, Texas racer Tim Hay's big block aluminum-headed 427 inch Chevy was the favorite of the bowtie fans since most of the field has hemi Mopar power. He was the sixth quickest of the first round with a 4.2315 at 171.62

I admit this is my favorite car of this event. Metalflake paint, tinted windows and a real retro look and feel. They did an 1/8th mile burnout and ran a 4.8181/144.93. The quickest mouse motor in the field.

Former Pro Mod crewman turned fuel altered pilot Sean Belt covered the eighth at Eddyville in 4.1684 at only 172.61 to take the fourth slot in the 23 car qualifying field. Belt's '48 Fiat bodied roadster uses a 526 inch blown KB for power with a 20 percent nitro load in the tank.

Angela Sacilia's 430 inch blown Hemi powered Fiat reportedly has run some six-second quarter-mile times and was one of the ten quickest qualifiers in the first round running a respectable 4.2871/166.98 that put her in the A main and number seven qualifer going into the second round on Saturday.

Twenty-three Altereds from eight states showed up for the first round of qualifying for the two eight-car fields that will make up the Championship race on Saturday Night. The Rat Trap and Nanook both with about 90 percent in the tank were the first two alts down the track and both of them blew the tires off and coasted though the lights.

Fuel Altered Nationals at Eddyville

Today and Saturday and Saturday August 15 & 16 marks the return of the World Fuel Altered Nationals to the historic Eighth-mile Eddyville Raceway Park just a short drive from Ottumwa, IA.
DRO will be bringing you same day coverage of this yearly event that we think is one of the premiere Fuel Altereds events in the country. At this event are no alcohol cars! This race is for nitro burners only and features some of the best cars from the Texas based Outllaw Fuel Altered circuit as well as touring pro teams like the Nanook and Rat Trap West Coast based teams and some Midwest cars you may or may not have heard of before.

So two nights of nitromethane burning, short-wheelbased, supercharged engine powered fuel altereds and DRO is going to bring you all of the action. We will have a lot of photos, mini-interviews, and of course the qualifying sheet for each round.

One thing you should know though is we don’t know what kind of internet service we will have in the Iowa hinterlands so the coverage may go up late but we will get it up for you. We’ll also come back on Sunday with more photos and a complete race round-up.

The race schedule is that Friday evening there will a qualifying session at 7 PM for the Nitro Altereds. Then on Saturday another qualifying session follwed by eliminations beginning at 6 PM. “After last years event, I’m ready for about anything” said track manager Gerald Kramer. “These machines are so radical you can’t predict what might happen” he continued. Admission for adults on Friday is $15 and $33 for Saturday. Kids (6-12) are only $5 per day.
