Why do you think that the NHRA is seemingly so adamantly opposed to allowing Pro Mods to be a professional class?
TROY COUGHLIN: I just don’t know, to tell you the truth. They seem to like the cars, they seem to like the class…. I just don’t know.
How about a TV program for the NHRA Pro Mod series; will there be one this year?
TROY COUGHLIN: Right now there is no TV for the series. That is a very expensive program to fund. But that’s not to say that at some point in the future we won’t have a dedicated Pro Mod TV program.
What about the purse structure and a championship points program? Can you tell us what that will be?
TROY COUGHLIN: Well, as far as the purse for a race, I believe it will be $10,000 to win and $5,000 for runner-up, but the qualifying money is going to be less than it was. I think it will pay $750 to qualify, but we are still working on that issue. As for the championship points, we’re still working on that issue too. I can tell you it will pay the top five racers in points but I honestly don’t know right now how much.
How long do you see JEGS backing the NHRA Pro Mod series? At some point will it become a business decision for your family business to keep supporting the series?
TROY COUGHLIN: Well, business definitely has something to do with how long we will be involved but we do sell a lot of parts to racers who have Pro Mod-style cars, so we’ll be involved in the series for a while.
How long do you intend to keep racing?
TROY COUGHLIN: I don’t know. My kids ask me that all of the time. I tell them I don’t know. I’m only 47 years old -- I still like to race.
