Do you think that the IHRA should follow the ADRL’s lead?

JO: I think eventually they will have to make the change or they will only have one type of car.  Some racers have told me if you could bring funding they would split the classes.  I think that is a rumor so far.

What are you doing with your time these days?

JO: Charlene and I have moved to North Carolina, built a new house with a nice garage/workshop for me. I have two street rods and some old Willys parts I have been collecting for about 20 years. So I have plenty to do. But I am really enjoying spending quality time with my lovely wife, Charlene. I also spend time on the phone helping Billy Leverentz, the new owner of Oddy’s Automotive, Inc., and talking to my son, Dave, who is now a crew chief/tuner himself.

If you could do anything over in your racing career, what would it be?

JO: Between the good old days racing and running in Pro Mod, I have had a pretty complete career. We won every type points championship we ever went after. The thing I do miss is the great people we met along the way.  I have so many people to thank for all our success over the years. Of course my family, two great boys by my side for all those years, Dave and Dan, my beautiful daughter Elizabeth and of course Charlene for being there all those years to help me. The Hahn family who sacrificed so much, so that myself and Fred could live our dream. Fred, one of the best natural drivers who ever drag raced.  His wife, Karen, who was always there to help us with a smile. Fred Jr. and Tracy who spent 15 years with their dad gone racing.  Billy Leverentz and his family for all the dedicated time he put into making this race team run its best.  Those are just some of the people that made this ride possible. To ALL the people that helped us along the way I would like to take this time to say “thank you” for everything you did for us.

Okay, we’re down to our traditional last two questions, Boxers or briefs?

JO: Briefs

As far as musical tastes Goo-Goo Dolls or Dolly Parton?

JO: Pink Floyd -- a lot of nights driving home from a race – and AC/DC. Good old Rock ‘n’ Roll.
