LaBrecque’s trackside crew includes Michael Wright, his 21-year-old nephew who hopes to have his own 1980 Camaro racing in the 7.0 class next year. “If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be doing this; I couldn’t be doing it,” LaBrecque says. He also credits the support of his wife and 11-year-old daughter, Hannah, who also comes to the track as often as possible. “She’s crazy about racing, NASCAR, dirt cars, drag racing, you name it,” LaBrecque says of Hannah. When asked if she’ll drive his car someday, he laughs and replies, “She wants to! She wants to drive it now.”

When he’s away from his family, LaBrecque relies on his fellow racers. “Everyone helps each other out when they can,” he says. “It’s a lot of work; a lot of people don’t realize how much you have to do to make these races and still maintain your everyday life. It’s a big commitment that you have to make and I almost wasn’t going to run this series this year because it can be kind of discouraging to see some of these guys running big-money motors in what’s supposed to be a street class, but Michael and my daughter talked me into keeping on doing it and I’m glad they did.”

No doubt, LaBrecque is getting the most bang for a buck ever spent.
