
“We were shaking the tires real bad because it’s quite a learning curve going from the big tires to the 10.5s, so when we went home we replaced the wheels and put some taller
gears in the rearend. We had 4.30s in it for the big tires and we’ve got 3.50s in it now. It made a big difference, but we’ve still got a ways to go.”
The Montgomery race was rained out before qualifying could even be completed, but at the next ADRL event at Valdosta, GA, in May, Gorman qualified seventh, but bowed out in round one of eliminations. Undaunted, he showed up the next month at Huntsville, AL, qualifying second and making it to the final against winner Mike Hill after running a career-best 4.415 in the semi-finals.
Despite his short time in the sport, Gorman is firmly entrenched in drag racing now and looks forward to every day at the track. “This is great. I like it too much; I spend too much time doing this and not enough time working,” he says. “I just got very fortunate and made enough money a couple of years ago to be able to do this and it’s been such a fun time for us that I just want to keep going.”
