So Mauney, who has known Leggett more than 20 years and has built or worked on many cars for him, expects to be back behind the wheel for the rest of the ADRL season—that is, if Leggett holds on to the car.
“It’s for sale. I don’t think he really wants to sell, but if someone comes up with the right money, it’s for sale,” Mauney reveals. “But if the car is raced, I’ll drive it.”
Mauney says he enjoys his racing relationship with Leggett because the trucking and logging company owner is so driven to succeed. “He’s just a good, straight-up guy,” Mauney states. “I’ll tell you something about Terry; he’s kind of calm and laid back, but I guarantee he wants to win as bad as the most jacked-up person you’ll see out there. He’s got the desire to do good as much as anybody out there.”
You can bet Mauney also wants to see Leggett’s bright, orange Mustang “do good,” too. “I was sick when we missed getting to race in Houston,” he says. “This car has so much in it and I just want to really see what it can do.”
