The Drag Racing Association of Women holds several fundraising events each year. It is a wonderful way to raise money, provide entertainment and meet the great supporters of DRAW.
Just around the corner is the annual DRAW auction held at the NHRA Dallas Motorplex with the support of the Meyer family. If you are in the area. you cannot miss this free event. It's hosted by NHRA announcers, and includes several awards presentations including the person of the year, company or the year, and organization of the year. It is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to the many who help make D.R.A.W. a success.
See this photo from the 2007 Dallas Auction with NHRA announcers Bob Frey and Alan Reinhart hosting the auction. The Dallas auction has been the largest fundraising event over the past two years.
After Dallas we move onto the NHRA event in Reading, Pennsylvania where a pet contest takes place. This is a truly fun event enjoyed by the NHRA Division One Racers. Personally, I am looking forward to being on hand at this event to find out what all the fuss is about. No doubt you will have a report in next month's column about this event. Last, but not least, we are already starting to prepare for the DRAW golf tournament held the Wednesday prior to the NHRA Gatornationals.
In closing, those who attended the NHRA US Nationals may have seen Diane and John Cole trotting through the pits selling 50/50 tickets in their blue DRAW uniforms. Their dedication to the organization is unbelievable and the amount of money they raise is fantastic. During the NHRA US Nationals, the DRAW 50/50 raised over $3,000. That is a lot of footwork to raise that kind of money. The next time you see Diane and John Cole trotting through the pits, say Hi! Look for my report from the Dallas Auction and the Pet Contest next month.
