The NHRA Gatornationals has always been one of the most exciting events of the year for me. As, a matter of fact I have been attending the event for over 25 years. My childhood, high school and even college years are filled with many fun memories of this event. Since, joining the industry this year will mark my 17th year of attending the NHRA Gatornationals. The golf tournament has added a new level of fun to this already exciting event. The golf tournament takes place on Wednesday, prior to the national event allowing sportsman racers, media, manufacturers reps and midway workers to participate in the event.
On Wednesday prior to the AC Delco Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida racers, fans and manufacturers representatives experienced a fun filled day of golf at Ironwood golf course. Fortunately, the golf course is located just a few miles from Gainesville Raceway. During the outing a mother alligator and her two babies were spotted in the golf course pond. This provided some insight into the naming of this popular NHRA national event. D.R.A.W. members and board members were present to help coordinate the golf tournament including Vicky Aswege, Beth Hyatt, (current President), John and Diane Cole, Rosalee and Terry Noble.
The NITRO FISH longest drive was presented to: Kip Rhoton; The NITRO FISH Closest to the Pin was presented to: Scott Vandenburg. The LUCAS OIL/LUNATI first place awards were presented to Flight A and Flight B teams. Members of the flight “A” team were: Jeff Atkinson, Steve Cohen, Jeff Strickland and Mickey Whaley. Members of flight “B” team were: Tom Jenkins, Karen Miner, Mark Miner and Wayne Ulmer. The golfers enjoyed beverages courtesy of LUCAS OIL and food courtesy of SUNCOAST PERFORMANCE. The annual D.R.A.W. Florida Golf tournament is one of the most enjoyable events of the year for sportsman racers and manufactures.
One of the more popular events for fans and professional drivers is the annual D.R.A.W. auction held each year at the NHRA event in Joliet, Illinois. This year it will be held at the United Association Route 66 Nationals on Saturday, June 6th. The auction includes a small silent auction and a live auction hosted by NHRA Announcer, Bob Frey. The live auction includes items such as autographed uniforms by drivers, artwork of various professional drivers and memorabilia items from some of the most popular NHRA Professional drivers.
So come out and join D.R.A.W. for this fun filled auction on June 6th in Chicago, Illinois. Next month we will find out the results of the fun filled D.R.A.W. auction. On a separate note the month of May pays tribute to Mothers.
I was reading a quote the other day from Sophia Loren, “ When you are a Mother you are never alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.”
Being a Mother is the most rewarding job ever. Your children are always in your thoughts and their well-being is always a concern no matter how old they are. So, remember to think of those special mothers on MOTHER’S DAY on Sunday, May 10th.
