Tommy Johnson, Jr. has been a friend of the family since he first started bracket racing at Eddyville Dragway years ago. We have always watched his results and now that his wife, Melanie Troxell, won the Winternationals and got R/U at Phoenix I am hooked. Add in Erica Enders just missing the pole at Phoenix in Pro Stock and Hillary Will getting it done pretty well in Top Fuel and our wives should be a little more understanding when we want to hog the channel hopper on Sunday evenings.
Watching Top Fuel and Funny Car is still a little boring to me, but it isn’t because of the lack of flames and wild runs. It is because it is ALWAYS the same two or three teams they feature between every round. C’mon guys, can’t you walk over to Jack Wyatt’s pits and see how it happens on a team using THEIR OWN MONEY? How about the different Top Fuelers? Are the only ones who allow cameras in the pits the ones with major sponsors that I am sure NHRA is trying to kiss up to? They did do a great job on J.R. Todd at the Winternationals by the way.
Wish our cars were this ready right now!
Pro Stock: Man, what a head game that class has become. If you don’t weld the ‘tree you are probably gone on race day. Staging duels, swapping lanes and mind games are standard operating procedure. Watch them in the turn-off area sometime; they barely even recognize that the other guy is standing there after a race. Pretty cool really; now if they would just get the Dodges to run better! C’mon Glidden, if them guys aren’t going to hit the shift points, get your old butt in there and show how it’s done! (Sorry about that, it is just the Mopar in me coming out.)
The MOROSO 5-Day: The oldest, or at least the most famous, multi-day big money bracket race is going to get LIVE COVERAGE and UPDATES this year. Team DRO, which includes Project 4-Link and Back-2-Basics will be at the biggest bracket race in the Winter Series. Soon you will be reading interviews with racers who have NOT MISSED EVEN ONE MOROSO 5-DAY EVENT plus a lot of other cool stuff about the race.
Until then, keep the garage lights burning and the Jegs Mail Orders coming. Racing is just a quarter mile away!
Have a safe season,
