As for the "show me the money" portion of our program…
Pros: it got a little sticky here; the replies were all over the place. I guess I need to break it down between the Top Fuel guys and the Funny Cars guys, but I really don't want to.
Let’s see if this works…
Top Fuel: 75% of those responding said they would run for the same money as they run for now.
Funny Car: 60% of those responding said they would not run for less than Top Fuel.
Can I add, why in the hell should they? Please, if the field is the same size the money should be the same.
Sportsman: 100% are good to go with the money they get now under either the ANRA or NERA format.
So, there are the results of this month's big poll. No big surprise that people want to race and support a series.
While on this topic, I picked Steve Gibbs' brain about any movement on a series that he has been working on. Steve is disappointed that he has nothing concrete to report at this time. He believes, as I do, that we need a series to pull us together and show our selling potential to the racetracks. He added that with the CHRR's success he is confident the NHRA museum would be a natural to oversee a Nostalgia series.
Update on one of my favorite cars: The entry fielded by Mike Patterson, Mike and Garey Compston, and Bill Bothello has been making some progress. The AA/FD inc. legal 426 powered Front Engine Dragster made it to the second round at the Night Fire Nationals at Boise. The first round they carded a 6.36 at 206 mph to advance. Next round they lost after running a 6.24 at 228. A great outing for the Devil's own 42666. It even has a 42666 decal on the cowl! Keep after it, gang!
A little shout out to the driver of this rig, Mendy Fry. You go, girl! She is doing a great job getting used to a new ride with all the new car details still being worked out. Mendy is definitely a driver's driver.
Leah Pruett -- my inbox has been all about Leah Pruett as of late. If you have been under a rock, then you don't know she is nostalgia's latest superstar. She has a new Funny Car coming soon and she got in Bob Godfrey's car for a couple of squirts. I guess being bored with that (it was Godfrey’s car after all) she went for a ride in one of Don Shumacher's "big" cars. I guess I need to say, "you go, girl" again. She is a pleasant, talented, articulate young woman. I wish her the best of luck, unless I'm in the other lane.
That's it, gang, for this month's escapade. Don't be shy and please write a letter to the editor. That's what I live for…
