Why does SFI require an SFI spec on a window net but not on the mounting hardware?

If you are faster than 11.00 seconds you must have expensive aftermarket axles; has any tech inspector bothered to ask how old your wheel studs or lug nuts are? Why are axles more important than wheel studs or lug nuts?

We are required to change our safety harness every two years. Does your tech inspector or SFI say anything about the bolts or hardware used to fasten them to the car? Why are what holds the harness in place less important than the harness?

If your car runs 9.99 or quicker you are required to purchase an SFI chassis inspection sticker. Do you think the welds should be part of the inspection? Is it possible to have the right thickness of tubing and yet have poor enough welds that the tubing is compromised?

If fuel prices reach $5.00 per gallon next summer will you still race? If so, will you cut back on the number of events you attend?

Will the higher fuel costs cause you to look closer to home for special events to participate in as well as watch?

If you are lined up against another racer who is required to have arm restraints, gloves, 3.2a/5 pants and jacket, neck collar and arm restraints but he or she isn’t wearing what is required, what would you do?

Nothing? Just race.

Ask the Staging Director if you are “supposed” to wear required safety equipment? Does anyone check for it?

Ask the other racer if they normally race without it?

Could asking about this cause hard feelings? Should you even have to ask?

Do you think track managers make themselves available enough during a race to handle any “judgement calls”? Do you think a track manager should have race experience to do the job well?

Now some questions for you non-racers:

  1. Do you attend local bracket races? If you don’t, why not?

What could your local track do to attract you to their regular bracket race events?

  1. Do you attend “special events” at your local track, such as Jet Car shows, Match Races, 10.5 Outlaw races? What is your favorite event to attend at your local track?

Do you attend NHRA or IHRA National events?

If you attend National events, what part of the event do you enjoy the most?

Now a question for everyone:

What is it about drag racing you like the most? What creates that passion inside you that makes drag racing part of your life?

I hope you will take the time and send us an email with some responses to these questions. I am really curious about where our sport is headed and what to expect in the future. I know change is part of life and I have always looked forward to changes, I always have hope it will be a change for the better!

God bless and have a fun and safe Christmas holiday.
