Just Wondering

Just Wondering... About the Al-Anabi team (at the risk of honkin’ them off, oh that’s right they don’t like me already), could the fact that Don Schumacher’s Top Fuelers are dominating the races make that teams' sponsor a little testy? I hear that winning is all important and not winning is unacceptable.

Just Wondering... Isn’t it amazing how nitro tuner extraordinaire Alan Johnson’s protege Aaron Brooks has turned the Morgan Lucas car into a number one qualifier and a serious threat to win any race after struggling mightily just to get qualified when he was tuning Roger Burgess’ Nitro Funny Car?

Just Wondering... How can it work?  From the racers we have talked to, ADRL pres Tim McAmis is copying the way the NHRA does business.  No one should expect any freebies when coming thru the pit gate at an ADRL event.  Everyone is expected to buy a ticket. Any manufacturer or rep doing business at the event must pay a four figure fee to do business at an ADRL event. In other words, the racers and their sponsors are being forced to support the series with their mioney. That will be pretty hard to make work  with a core group of just 150  race teams that support the series.

Just Wondering... When the major sanctioning bodies keep adding more and more safety related rules that inevitably end up driving the cost of racing ever higher, is their prime reason for the rules driver safety or trying to prevent expensive law suits?

Just Wondering... If safety rules involving cars and driver safety are so damned important, why is it that some Tech Inspectors, Division Director, and sanctioning body “suits”  turn a blind eye to sanctioned tracks that pretty much ignore any rules that might keep a racer away? I have seen some blatent examples of this at both NHRA and IHRA tracks recently.

Just Wondering... What would have happened to the NHRA Sportsman Division if Lucas Oil hadn’t stepped up and renewed the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series sponsorship? I don’t think any other corporate executives  or corporation would be interested in backing that series except Forrest and Charlotte Lucas.

Just Wondering... Did San Antonio Raceway charge admission for the Summit Sportsman race held on Sunday after the two-day Nitro Jam?  I would think offering free admission Sunday to those fans with a ticket stub from either Friday or Saturday might have resulted in putting fans in the stands, and those fans will spend money at the concession stand.

Just Wondering... Am I the only one who wished that the NHRA race  broadcast on Saturday was a nice tight one-hour show and the Sunday race day show was a two-hour tightly-edited broadcast?

Just Wondering... Why they don’t have a sports book at or very close to the Strip at Las Vegas so that fans could gamble on the races they hold at that track? Also, I would like to see the odds-makers at Vegas set a line and open a book on some of the other events, like the DRO/Heritage race next month or the Street Car Supernationals at the end of the year.
