Oh, the Wonder of it all!

Just Wondering… Why Courtney Force seems to be getting the lion’s share of media coverage including a recent cover of National Dragster while Alexis DeJoria, a veteran TA/FC national event competitor backed by a multi-million-dollar company seems to be getting little attention? She is hooked up with the Kalitta organization, which is an equal to the JFR group.  The fact is that while Ms. Force has never driven a F/C in competition, Ms. DeJoria is a seasoned veteran of the Alcohol F/C ranks. Frankly, in my editorial opinion her story is easily as important to the sport as Courtney’s. Alexis has certainly paid her dues to be considered a future NHRA Super Star.

Just Wondering… Wasn’t the IHRA Nitro Jam supposed to give drag racing fans a couple hours of serious “Nitrotainment” with a more affordable ticket? At their season opener prime seats went for $35-40, which is about what a fan would pay for a ticket to a Friday night NHRA national event qualifying session.  The main “attraction” was a nightly match race between a Monster Truck and a jet-powered Semi. Both race cars left fluid on the track and they weren’t the only ones. Will IHRA Nitro Jam fans continue to pay those prices for that kind of “entertainment”?  You can bet the IHRA management team of Aaron Polburn and Skooter Peaco and the folks at Feld Entertainment took their bought-in teams to the woodshed over that!

Just Wondering… Wouldn’t the IHRA be better off to just abandon any pretext that their Nitro Jam is a “racing” series? Maybe to insure a better show for the fans, they ought to do what promoters Broadway Bob Metzler at Union Grove, Wisc., John Grivins at Martin, Mich., and others have done for years to make sure their ticket-buying fans got their money’s worth. Booked-in racers got “docked” or, worse yet, not paid at all if their car didn’t make a representative pass, oiled the track, or missed their call. As a result fans saw what they paid for a majority of the time.

Just Wondering… Does it mean anything that former ADRL president Kenny Nowling made an unannounced return to the country of Qatar recently and will be there until the last Arabian Drag Racing League race is completed?

Just Wondering… Will the civil unrest in the middle East (especially now in Bahrain) cause the ruling class who are spending huge sums of money on their drag racing hobby with the NHRA and ADRL to re-evaluate the time and especially money they’re spending? The answer to that question is, you betcha!

Just Wondering… If the IRS gets motivated by the info about the NHRA's tax exempt status a Washington lawyer brought to their, would they then also take a closer look at big money bracket races and how those races are financed?
