We don’t know the photographer who shot this but it is from the grandstands at the 1979 U.S. Nationals but we wish we did.  It is a great photo. Ron Colson (near lane) ) driving for Roland racing one of Roland’s former drivers Don Prudhomme in the Army Monza, Colson is just starting to smoke the tires and Prudhomme looks to be out of control, close to the guardrail, with at least one wheel off the ground.

Another photo we came across with no photo credit attached that was just too cool not to use. It had to have been taken in ’65 at Pomona Fairgrounds we think. This is probably towards the end of the season as the coating on the headers has burned off in spots. Roland still has short hair and boyish looks. You can tell Prudhomme has been thrashing that day just from the amount of grease on his white T-shirt and pants. As for the guy with the glasses and striped shirt, it'is believed to be the popular announcer at San Gabriel, Fontana, and manager at Irwindale, the late Mel Reck.
Iif this isn’t a classic photo of Mr. Prudhomme in his early years I’ve never seen one.
This looks like it was shot from a ladder in the lanes somewhere. Roland has made the switch to Fuel Floppers and long hair.
