Simpson: Yes there has. This is third-hand information, so this is not me saying it, but it is what I've heard from other people: Is that NASCAR claims that they never knew how to mount a seat belt, nor did any of their inspectors. I find that hard to believe. It's unimaginable to me -- that they can spend so much time on those templates and so much time on approved nuts and bolts and things, that they didn't have a clue on a proper seat belt installation.

I'm going to tell you this, I know this for a fact that they have yet to talk to any of the seat belt inspectors to explain to them what a proper installation is. That is a fact. Take a Simpson catalog and you open it up to the centerfold and the drawing that's in there that shows the installation of a seat belt is a copyrighted drawing - and we've given permission to IHRA, NHRA, SCCA, USAC to use those illustrations in their rule books. So I think there are fourteen or fifteen rule books that have our illustrations in them.

CRO: But NASCAR's rule book does not?

Simpson: No.

In Part 2: Simpson talks about NASCAR, other safety equipment, and his plans for the future. Coming September 14.
