Practice makes perfect as Brogdon gets first Pro Stock win

Last week we told you of Rodger Brogdon doing a little extra testing on the Bristol track. It evidently paid off as the past winner in NHRA's Comp class won his first Pro Stock race in his 110th career event. He had one previous final-round appearance, in 2011 in Houston, where he came up short against Vincent Nobile.

But this time he would not be denied. He made a pass of 6.745 seconds at 205.48 mph to run down Erica Enders-Stevens. See all of the pro results in our Race Coverage.   [6/17/2013]

Horan takes Saturday Night Nitro win

With sixteen nitro funny cars in the pits at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, the first of three Saturday Night Nitro events found Dan Horan Jr. and his Ronnie Swearingen-tuned ’66 Mustang funny car grabbing the $3,000 prize. When the evening of racing was over it was Horan’s bracket-like 5.81 performances that put his “Patriot” Mustang in the Famoso Winners Circle with a 5.812, 253.09-mph charge.

The second quickest winning elapsed time of eliminations was recorded by Robert Overholser driving Don Nelson’s “California Hustler” ’77 Firebird with his holeshot 5.815/243.28 mph charge over newcomer Devery Howard in the “Bays & Rupert” Camaro who ran 5.810/246.66 in his losing effort.

We’ll have a complete report, Boise-Bakersfield Blitz points, and plenty of photos from the weekend’s Saturday Night Nitro at Famoso in DRO tomorrow. [6/17/2013]
