First look at an NHRA-approved PS/TS 2012 Camaro

The Agent found a note in the old Phlegm Building mayo jar a couple of days ago written on the back a Jerry Haas Race Cars invoice asking if he was interested in seeing the first 2012 Camaro PS/TS to be built in the Missouri race car factory.

The car belongs to Amarillo, Texas, racer Greg Lair. The NHRA approved body is built by Five Star and this was the body that GM techs used for their wind tunnel tests of the body. Lair, a GM car dealer, plans to debut the car as an NHRA Top Sportsman but also plans to race the car in the ADRL’s Extreme Pro Stock class. The car currently is powered by a 800+ ci carbureted-only big block with a five-speed trans.

We’ll have a closer look at this car in the new issue of DRO.  (Jeff Burk photos) [2/2/2012]

Testing begins at Las Vegas

Testing began Thursday, Feb. 2, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The dragsters of Cory Mac (Left) and Brad Faria were the only two Top Fuelers, but more are expected tomorrow. Several Pro Stock, Pro Mods and AA Funny Cars were also at the track.

Photographer James Drew reports that Ryan Davenport will be taking over the driving duties of the O’Brien & Austin AA/FC from Mark Hentges. We’ll have more photos tomorrow. (James Drew photos) [2/2/2012]
