Dyno Don’s Maverick to be sold

Dyno Don Nicholson’s 1970 Maverick Pro Stock is scheduled to be sold at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Fla., the end of this month. Presented as Lot S219, this Ford is scheduled to cross the block on national television at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 28.

Nicholson constructed this famous 427 SOHC-powered 1970 Ford Maverick in seven days for its season debut at the NHRA Winternationals in February 1970. The car became a dominant force on the match racing circuit, at one point winning 45 straight rounds. Nicholson's Maverick later made drag racing history, becoming the first Ford to win an NHRA Pro Stock title at the 1971 Summernationals at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ.
