Houston Raceway Park GM Seth Angel evidently is getting heat from his customers about a return to full quarter-mile racing. From the press release we got here at DRO today, this could represent the first serious rift between NHRA's track partners, racers and the NHRA Management. The other shoe has yet to drop regarding a spectator fatality associated with the Antron Brown wheel mishap and the fact that the DSR US Army Top Fuel car ran 325 mph in 1000 feet doesn't help matters.
Don't expect the NHRA to return to quarter-mile racing with those speeds showing up and in-fact look for NHRA to really get serious about engine rules to slow the fuel cars down.
The nostalgia AA/FC racers have proven beyond a doubt that a smaller blower, single mag and a smaller fuel pump will do the job. NHRA's problem is getting the major teams, tuners, and sponsors to agree to do something. Otherwise bet your last bucks that speeds will continue to escalate in the NHRA fuel car ranks. Oh, and did anyone notice that on that 3.79 pass last weekend at Gainesville the engine blew up at about 800ft. A bad sign, man. [3/17/2010]
After dusting off some pigeon droppings from the top of the ol’ mayo jar, the Agent found a photo of John Robinson’s Texas Diesel Power diesel funny car carrying new sponsorship from Power Service Products. Power Service Products is America’s largest manufacturer of technologically advanced diesel fuel additives.
A note with the photo said the team will run several ADRL events beginning this weekend at Dragpalooza VI, held at Houston Raceway Park, in NHRA Division 4, and at a select number of NHRA national events in the Super Comp class. [3/17/2010]
