NHRA testing wheel tether devices at Gainesville

Agent 1320 has learned that the NHRA is testing a couple of  “wheel tether” devices for Top Fuel and Funny Cars at the NHRA Gainesville track this week. One of the devices is a Jim Head design, a metal rod that is attached to the wheel by way of a bolt that slides into the axles. It would turn the same speed as the tire is designed to keep the rear wheels from coming off if the wheel studs or lugs should fail.

Houston Raceway Park will host its first major drag race of the year March 19-20, as the American Drag Racing League arrives for its ADRL Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen.

Several new teams, drivers, cars and motorcycles will be making their ADRL national-event debuts at Dragpalooza VI, which actually represents the second of nine points-paying events toward the 2010 championship-deciding Speedtech Battle for the Belts due to the ADRL’s unique points system that applies the final race of each calendar year toward qualifying for the next season’s championship playoff.
