AA/FCs Batter Barriers at Bakersfield

This weekend at the 52nd annual “March Meet” the AA/FC cars dominated the racing action and re-set all of the current performance records for the class. Paul Romine and Lee Paul Jennings (251.53) joined Leah Pruett-LeDuc as racers who have carded speeds of 250.00 or better. Romine’s 253.03 speed lead the charge. And Ron Capps reset the ET record to 5.675 with a 5.70 on his second qualifying lap serving the back-up for a stunning 5.675 in the first round of eliminations.

Jennings (shown) also put himself in the 5.70’s club with a stunning 5.78 at just 211.00 in the quarter finals and he had the chutes out and blossomed before the win light came on. (Jeff Burk photo) [3/9/2010]

O. Bruton Smith building a dragstrip at his New Hampshire track?

The old Phlegm Building pigeon coop had an East Coast visitor flutter in this morning with a note attached to her leg. It said that the wicked-big rumor floating around the East Coast is that O.B. Smith is building a dragstrip at his Loudon, New Hampshire, Cup track and has intentions of holding a race there in August.

The Agent has not been able to verify this rumor just yet but there was talk when Mr. Smith originally bought the track of putting in a dragstrip. An August date seems a bit optimistic but if anyone could build a strip in that amount of time it would be the bombastic Mr. Smith.

If this is not a rumor and the track at Loudon gets built and it is given an NHRA national event, Mr. Smith would own as many tracks as the NHRA. It will also not be a good deal for the club-owned dragstrip in Epping as the two tracks are in the same geographical location and would compete against each other. [3/9/2010]
