The newly reformed AHRA is launching with the U.S. Funny Car Championships that will be held Sept 10–11 at Thunder Road Raceway Park in northwestern Louisiana. The purse is big, over $70,000< as the AHRA is hoping the payout will attract the finest nostalgia nitro funny cars from both coasts and the Midwest to vie for an outstanding $10,000 to win over a 16-car open qualified flopper field with a strong payday for all qualifiers.
The DRO AA Funny Car Challenge Series is at the World Series of Drag Racing Aug 28-29 two weeks before the AHRA event and at Kansas City International Raceway the weekend (September 17-19) following the U.S. Funny Car Championships and this event could be the race some left coasters were looking for to make their own Midwest Swing in 2010. This event is months away, but the Agent has already marked his desk calendar with the date, in ink![1/15/2010]

Division 7 Alcohol Funny Car racer Don Hudson from Morro Bay, Calif., will take over the seat of Twig Zeigler’s famous “Pizza Haven” Plymouth Satellite to compete in the 2010 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. Match race veteran Zeigler will race one more time in a special 8-car nostalgia field at the 50th Winternationals February 12- 4 before letting Hudson take over.
Hudson, who tested in “McCain’s Bomb Squad” last season, said of the opportunity, “Who says dreams cant come true? Look out March Meet, I can’t wait to race in that 32-car field!” (Darr Hawthorne photo) [1/15/2010]
