The photos of the massive Peterbilt hot rod we ran in yesterday’s 1320 note drew an instant response from a couple of our readers including Kenny Shane from New York. They let the agent know the vehicle was built by Randy Grubb at his “Blastolene” shop. They also pointed out that the engine is a Detroit Diesel 2 stroke with factory dual 8-71 superchargers! Perhaps the lack of sparkplugs and wires should have been the Agent’s first clue. [7/31/2009]

Antron Brown, who recently became just the seventh professional driver in NHRA history to sweep the grueling Western Swing, will be a guest of Dave Despain on the popular Speed TV program Wind Tunnel on Sunday, Aug. 2.
The show airs from 9-10 p.m. (ET).
Brown, who has 23 career NHRA wins, is the only driver in NHRA history to win races and lead the standings in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The former college track star at Mercer (N.J.) Community College has been arguably the hottest driver on the NHRA tour this season. Brown has a category-best five wins, eight final-round appearances, five No. 1 qualifying spots, six low elapsed time of the meet, and seven top speed of the meet. He also clocked the fastest 1,000-foot pass in Top Fuel racing (319.75 mph) at Bristol, Tenn. in May. Last Sunday in Sonoma, Calif., he became only the seventh professional racer to win all three of the Western Swing races. Brown also won at Phoenix and St. Louis this year. If the Agent need further proof that if the price is right drag fans will come to Nostalgia drags, he got it when one of his Northwest operatives called to say that the Friday night drags at the Goodguys Seattle event was a huge success.
The Agent then called John Drummond of Goodguys and he verified that they had around 300 cars and more than 6,000 spectators bought a ticket for their four-hour Friday Night drags.
The race featured an eight-car booked in front-motored dragster circuit and a lot of pre-1972 race cars. And the important news is that the price of a ticket for the event was under 25 bucks. [7/31/2009]
