We just received the photos of the Nostalgia Super Stock class at Cordova Dragway Park and they have been added to the Nostalgiafest coverage we put up yesterday. Take a look – they’re way cool cars!
That’s Jim Hagenhoff’s “American Muscle” ’65 Plymouth above – a perfect way to lead off our notes for this 4th of July weekend. We’ll be taking Friday, July 3, off to listen to some marching bands and watch fireworks. Happy birthday to America! And everybody stay careful out there. (Mike Garland photo) [7/2/2009]
The Agent just received a call from his most reliable NHRA operative regarding a possible edict from Graham Light, Sr. VP Racing Operations, regarding Top Fuel and Funny Cars at NHRA competition.
According to the source, the NHRA VP has either decided or is leaning towards a policy that would require Top Fuel and Funny Car competitors at NHRA national events to make a minimum number of qualifying passes to get paid.
If this RUMOR were to be true, it raises a multitude of scenarios. Would that mean a car that made four passes but all were slower than, say, a Paul Smith-owned car that
made one quick qualifying pass, would get the qualifying spot and the pay? If there are just 16 cars and a Steve Chrisman or Jack Wyatt make only one pass, do they not qualify? Or if they qualify, will they get paid?
The Agent cannot believe that in today’s economy NHRA or Mr. Light would even consider such a move … but then again, they are still considering a brand new spec fuel motor, it seems.
And so it goes at the headquarters on 2035 Financial Way in Glendora … and evidently with a zip code in another reality. (Todd Dziadosz photo) [7/2/2009]
